— Grandpa Joe to Charlie
Grandpa Joe is the grandfather of Charlie Bucket, husband of Grandma Josephine, and the tritagonist of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
In the original book, he is William Bucket's father. In the 1971 film, he is Helen Bucket's father instead. In the 2005 film, it is never specified who his child is, but he seems to still be Helen's father as Grandpa George is said to be Mr. Bucket's.
Background[]
20 years ago, he used to work for Willy Wonka for about five years, from the simple small candy store on Cherry Street to Willy Wonka's famous chocolate factory. However, 15 years ago, not long after the chocolate factory was opened, he was fired with the rest of the other employees, after spies had stolen Wonka's secret recipes.
Film[]
He is very happy when Charlie finds the last golden ticket enabling five lucky young kids, and their guardians to explore the Factory.
He lives in the factory at the end of the film.
