"Well, of course I can speak. Now let me out of here, or I shall shriek! Let. Me. Out!"
— Lofty meeting Wonka

Lofty is an Oompa-Loompa who appears in Wonka.

He steals Willy Wonka's chocolate to settle a debt with him and return to his homeland.

Background[]

Lofty was originally tasked with guarding the cocoa beans on the island of Loompaland, but after he dozed off and Wonka had taken the last four remaining cocoa beans the Oompa Loompas had, he is banished from Loompaland and can only return after getting the chocolate back from Wonka.

Wonka (2023)[]

Lofty first appears when he tries stealing Wonka's last batch of chocolate bonbons but gets caught in a trap set up by Wonka. After Lofty explains to Wonka why he tried to steal his chocolate Wonka explains that he can't give away his last remaining chocolate Lofty promises to negotiate with Wonka if he let him out of the trap only for Lofty to hit him on the head and foot with a frying pan and escapes with Wonka's bonbons.

He later appears on a boat that Wonka had been sent off in after agreeing to never make chocolate again in exchange for his friends' freedoms. Lofty tells Wonka that he only has one more jar of bonbons to give him and they will have settled their debt but Wonka tells Lofty that he doesn't make chocolate anymore after Wonka figures out that Noodle is in danger and finds that the boat has been rigged with dynamite, Lofty and Wonka escape the boat.

He later sneaks into Father Julius's church, knocks him out and saves Wonka and Noodle from The Chocolate Cartel's chocolate vault. After Wonka reunites Noodle with her long lost mother Lofty reappears and Wonka gives him a jar of bonbons settling his debt with Wonka Lofty says goodbye to Wonka but Wonka offers Lofty a job at his new factory as the head of the tasting department which he accepts.

Lofty's song []

Oompa loompa doompety doo
I've got a tragic tale for you
Oompa loompa doompety dee
If you are wise you'll listen to me

Dear Loompaland is both luscious and green
But not conducive to growing the bean
My job was guarding what little we'd got
You came along and pinched the lot
Hey, why didn't you say something?
Well, perhaps I drifted off

Oompa Loompa doompety-day
When I awoke, they sent me away
I'm disgraced, cast out in the cold
Till I've paid my friends back a thousand fold
A thousand fold? You gotta be kidding me
I repeat, a thousand fold

Quotes[]

  • "How dare you. I will have you know that I am a perfectly respectable size for an Oompa Loompa."
