— Veruca about the Golden Ticket
Veruca Salt is one of the five kids of the 1971 film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, played by Julie Dawn Cole. She is the second Golden Ticket finder, although one of her father's workers is technically the one who found it.
Her famous line is "Don't care how, I want it now."
Appearance[]
Veruca has long, curly chestnut brown hair. She wears her red dress, white tights and black mary jane shoes.
Personality[]
Veruca is a very rude, defiant, greedy, unruly, entitled, and demanding girl who wants material possessions. She is prone to raising her voice and shouting at people when she does not get her way. In addition, Veruca even made a huge mess during one of her violent temper tantrums. She seems to be talented when it comes to composing lyrics, singing an entire song with a rhythm.
Background[]
She is extremely annoyed when Augustus Gloop is the first Golden Ticker finder. Her father Henry has a large crew which is unpacking 19,000 bars an hour. She threatens her father she won't go to school until she has a Golden Ticket.
1971 film[]
Veruca meets her end when she becomes greedy, throwing a tantrum because she cannot have a golden goose.
Tom and Jerry remake[]
Veruca and Henry are seen in the incinerator, but they are able to escape just in time. Henry then scolds his daughter, refusing her demand that he buys her a chocolate factory. He drags her by the ear, saying she will learn discipline when they go home.
Veruca's Song[]
I want one! I want a golden goose!
Gooses! Geeses!
I want my geese to lay gold eggs for easter
Mr. Salt: It will sweetheart!
Veruca: At least a hundred a day.
Mr. Salt: Anything you say!
Veruca: And by the way...
Mr. Salt: What?
Veruca: I want a feast!
Mr. Salt: You ate before you came to the factory.
Veruca: I want a bean feast.
Mr. Salt: Huh, one of those.
Veruca: Cream buns and doughnuts and fruit cake with no nuts
Veruca: So good you could go nuts!
Mr. Salt: You can have all those things when you get home!
Veruca: No, now!
I want a ball!
I want a party!
Pink macaroons and a million balloons and performing baboons and...
Give it to me, now!
I want the world
I want the whole world!
I want to lock it all up in my pocket
It's my bar of chocolate
Give it to me now!
I want today
I want tomorrow!
I want to wear 'em like braids in my hair and
I don't want to share 'em!
I want a party with roomfulls of laughter
Ten thousand tons of ice-cream
And if I don't get the things I am after
I'm going to screeeeAAAAAMMMMMMM!
I want the works!
I want the whole works!
Presents and prizes and sweets and surprises
Of all shapes and sizes
And NOW!
Don't care how, I want it now!
Don't care how, I want it now!
Oompa Loompa's Song[]
Oompa Loompa, do-ba-dee-doo
I've got another puzzle for you
Oompa Loompa, do-ba-dee-dee
If you are wise you'll listen to me
Who do your blame when your kid is a brat?
Pampered and spoiled like a Siamese cat?
Blaming the kids is a lie and a shame
You know exactly who's to blame:
The mother and the father!
Oompa Loompa do-ba-dee-da
If you're not spoiled then you will go far
You will live in happiness too
Like the oompa loompa do-ba-dee-doo
Quotes[]
- "I WANT IT NOW!"
- "Make them work nights!"
- "I won't talk to you ever again. You're a rotten, mean father! You never give me anything I want!"
Trivia[]
- Julie Dawn Cole, who portrays this incarnation of Veruca, injured her knee while filming, bashing it against a sharp rock. Her bloody knee can be seen while she is breaking an egg in the chocolate river room.
- In real-life, Cole had an aversion to chocolate.
- Although Julie Dawn Cole actually sang "I Want It Now", she recorded her vocals on a separate occasion and lip-synced to the finished track when filming the eponymous segment. What viewers see in the film is a mimed version.
- The I Want It Now segment was filmed on Julie Dawn Cole's 13th birthday. After she fell down the trapdoor, she landed into a hall below the set to discover a birthday cake with candles on it, with the cast and crew entering moments later to surprise her with a party.
- Cole's birthday gifts were three film props: one of the golden eggs, a gobstopper, and Veruca's golden ticket.
- Both Julie Dawn Cole and the late Denise Nickerson (Violet) had crushes on Peter Ostrum (1971 Charlie), taking turns in spending time with him.
